Our Data

Collecting and Analysing Data for Sustainable Development Goal Engagement Across the University

Collecting data is the first step in enabling organisations to analyse and understand the efficacy of their engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We did this by examining the content of specific modules within each academic School and recording the presence of some engagement with each SDG. It is important to note that the calculated data which is visualised on our website is only that of Modules which have been analysed, not necessarily every live Module.

All of our data was collected with information from the academic year ending in August 2022.

An Example of the Data Collection Process

The image above displays an excerpt from the data collection process. The columns represent each SDG and the rows are assigned to a module within a School. The ‘Y’ indicates a degree of engagement with that particular SDG within teaching in the School.

Recognising the Imperfections

It is important to us that we are transparent in the collection of our data, and with this comes an explanation of the areas in which our data may display imperfections. The primary data collection occurred with the help of many individuals, so with this comes an increased possibility of subjectivity bias for what counts as a valid degree of engagement. We are working to decrease this possibility in future collection processes.
